| Les Girondins are ready to give the midfielder a substantial pay rise in order to ensure he remains at the Stade Chaban-Delmas on a permanent basis. Ligue 1 challengers Girondins de Bordeaux are set to double Yoann Gourcuff’s wage in an attempt to convince him to remain at the Stade Chaban-Delmas outfit Gourcuff has been one of the sensations of Le Championnat this season after returning from Milan by way of a year long loan deal to Bordeaux. Les Girondins, who are marshalled by Laurent Blanc, have secured a clause in the loan contract that stipulates that Gourcuff will remain with the Aquitaine outfit if they pay the Rossoneri €13 million and they can agree personal terms with the player. President Jean-Louis Triaud is reported willing to raise the 22-year-old’s wage from €150,000 per month to €300,000 per month but much seems to lie on Bordeaux qualifying for the Champions League. Triaud is under pressure to complete a deal swiftly for Gourcuff, who has scored seven league goals and provided six assists this season, but the veteran director will not be rushed. “There is no emergency,” he told Le Parisien “The coaches, managers and shareholders are in agreement. We all want to keep him. But I think that he will be interested in which European competition we are competing in next season.” Bordeaux are on course for a Champions League finish, however, Ligue 1’s summit is so crowded there is no guarantee that they will finish in the top three. Only five points separate the top six sides in Le Championnat. Les Girondins can secure a Europa League berth a week on Saturday when they face Ligue 2 side Vannes in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue. It has been announced that Bordeaux fans unable to make the trip to Paris will be able to watch the encounter on a giant screen to be erected in the city. Robin Bairner, Goal.com |
